Dine with Gods, Villains, Heros and Mortals

We are thrilled to announce that Wotan/Wanderer Mark Delavan will be among our honored guest artists at the Das Ende Banquet.  Also with us will be two exquisitely gifted former Adler Fellows:  mezzo soprano Daveda Karanas - Waltraute and Second Norn and soprano Heidi Melton - Sieglinde Cycle 3 and Third Norn.  The artists' schedules are packed with events and we are delighted that they are able to join us in celebrating Der Ring des Nibelungen.  We will keep you posted as other artists RSVP.

Elizabeth Bishop will take the role of Fricka in the San Francisco Ring

Adler Fellow and Merola Program alumn Elizabeth Bishop will take the role of Fricka in the San Francisco Opera Ring Cycles due to the withdrawal of Larissa Diadkova.  Ms. Bishop sang the role of Fricka in the 1999 San Francisco Ring and also at the Washington National Opera performances of the Ring in the Francesca Zambello production.  Ms. Bishop is very familiar to the San Francisco audience as she has sung over 20 roles for the company.  Toi, toi, toi.

Here is the press release from the San Francisco Opera:

Verna Parino in the news again

Wagner Society past-President Verna Parino is anything but shy!  However, our ever-young Wagnerian was a bit disconcerted when her trip to Shanghai for the Ring brought her more than 15 minutes of fame.  She was interviewed by many reporters, her photo was in all the Shanghai newspapers, Verna soon became an instant celebrity and, like other superstars, soon resorted to hiding from the paparazzi.

Verna is featured in an article just published this week on the website San Francisco Classical Voice.

Happy 40th James Levine

James Levine is celebrating his 40th year conducting at the Metropolitan opera.  Levine took the podium to celebrate with the premiere of the Robert LePage production of Die Walküre.  Levine was 27 when he started conducting at the Metropolitan Opera, some credit him with turning the Met Orchestra into one of the finest ensembles anywhere in the world.   Maestro Levine has over 2,500 Met performances to his credit.

Fresh Air host Terri Gross interviewed James Levine and you can hear a podcast of the program

March 2011 E-Notes - Addendum - Redux

WSNC E-Notes March, 2011 Addendum Redux

 Hi, folks,

We can call this another March Addendum or an early April E-Notes, but I want to get this off early because I just learned that there are a couple of local showings of Wagner operas in Bay Area theaters beginning April 3rd.

Emerging Pictures now has a couple of new venues more convenient to San Franciscans than San Jose:

March 2011 - E-Notes - Addendum

WSNC E-Notes March, 2011 Addendum

Hi, Folks,

I have a few things that I need to add, clarify, or correct.

For starters, Adler Fellowship alum  Daveda Karanas' Schwabacher Recital (Wesendonck Lieder) will be held at Temple Emanu-El's Martin Meyer Sanctuary on Lake at Arguello, not at the Opera House, as I alluded to. The info is here on the WSNC web site calendar, but I failed to scroll down to get the correct address (tickets for it can be purchased at the SFO Box Office).

It will be held on April 10 at 5:30 pm.
